The Hunchback of Notre Dame is a musical based on the novel of the same name by Victor Hugo. The musical features music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, with a book by Peter Parnell.
The musical tells the story of Quasimodo, a deformed bell ringer who lives in the bell tower of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. Quasimodo is ridiculed and shunned by the people of Paris because of his appearance, but he dreams of one day leaving the tower and experiencing life outside.
The plot also involves the beautiful gypsy girl Esmeralda, who captures the hearts of several men, including the evil Archdeacon Frollo and the brave soldier Phoebus. As the story unfolds, Quasimodo becomes increasingly involved in the lives of these characters and ultimately must choose between his loyalty to Frollo and his desire to help Esmeralda and her people.
