The story follows Frederic, a young man in love who is bonded to a band of humorously incredibly inept pirates in Victorian-era Cornwall. This operetta is a social satire of its day and explores the evergreen themes of bravery, responsibility, and honor.
After spending his early life as a young pirate, Frederic intends to rejoice on his 21st birthday by ending links with the Pirate King & starting courting Mabel (Linda Ronstadt). Frederic isn’t legally an adult yet; the Pirate King still is his master as he was born on 29 Feb, a day that occurs only once every 4 years. Unless something changes, Frederic is headed straight for trouble with the Pirate Emperor’s new enemy: Mabel’s father.
